Crafted by the Pateromichelakis family in the village of Lousakies, this elegant yet powerful wine is made entirely from Mavrotragano, a noble indigenous Greek variety that has found its perfect home in the warm, breezy terroir of Crete. Mavrotragano grapes thrive here, benefiting from the intense Mediterranean sun, the salty Aegean winds, and the careful organic farming practices that define the Pateromichelakis vineyard.
In the glass, Mavro reveals a deep, inviting ruby-purple hue with rich intensity. On the nose, it unfolds layers of dark berries — ripe black cherry, juicy blackberry, and wild plum — intertwined with notes of dark chocolate, subtle vanilla from oak aging, and a whisper of Mediterranean herbs and spice. The palate is full-bodied and beautifully structured. After 15 days of careful skin contact (extraction), the wine matures in new oak barrels and then rests further in the bottle, developing complexity and silky tannins. Expect a harmonious balance of lush dark fruit, a touch of baking spice, and a refined earthy undertone that speaks of Cretan soil.
