Since 1924, the Paterakis family has been part of the heartbeat of Kissamos. What started as two small shops on Skalidi Street has grown into a living legacy of honesty, quality, and Cretan pride – Paterakis Kissamos.

Since 1924, the hands of the Paterakis family have shaped the tables of Kissamos.

Our great-grandfather opened two humble shops opposite each other on Skalidi Street — one for meat, one for fish. Today, those same shops are proudly run by the fourth generation: brothers Giorgios and Vangelis Paterakis.

Giorgios, with deep passion and expertise, runs the butcher shop. A few years ago he invested in a professional dry-aging chamber, bringing premium biological beef to Kissamos — aged slowly for 30 to 60 days. This remains one of the very few places in western Crete where you can find authentic dry-aged beef of this quality.Across the street, Vangelis continues the family tradition in the fish shop, sourcing the freshest catch daily from the Cretan Sea.

The two brothers still live above their mother’s house, just as their father and grandfather did before them. Different in character yet united by the same values — hard work, honesty, and respect for tradition — they carry forward a century-old promise: to bring only the best to their community.

This is more than a family business.
It is a living piece of Kissamos history.
